2026 Progress Update 1

I’m sure I say this with ever update but where has the time gone. I’ve just blinked at I’m sure I was sitting down for Christmas dinner. So it’s now March of 2026 and I feel that I haven’t done much but actually it’s not been that bad.

First the elephant in the room, work has been really busy with a lot going on with deadlines and the such. Normal developer life, should expect anything less to be honest and I still don’t know why I act surprised and not able to plan for that but well I guess that’s that then.

Study Plan

The study plan for maths that I laid out at the start of the year is going well. I’m a few weeks behind schedule but it’s no biggy, I was rather bold with the timelines and thinking that I could keep to it every week was a little far fetched. I’ve fallen behind for a couple of reasons, firstly work again and secondly I was hit rather hard with flu and basically lost a week.

I’m not going to beat myself up over this set back as I still feel that I’ve achieved a lot and stuck to the plan as much as possible considering the louder tasks needing attention.

What’s coming

Well I’ve just purchased tickets for QCon London which takes place later this month which I’ve been looking forward to. It’s a great event and have always enjoyed it in the past. Plus it gives me an opportunity refresh my wardrobe with the latest in developer swag. I might share my thoughts on here or use this as a place to write some notes if I take any.

I’ve also been working on the workspace, nothing massive just the cable management that I’ve been putting off for probably over a year. Consider a desk that has a desktop machine, raspberry pi, two work laptops and a person laptop all sharing a monitor and other peripherals. Absolute rats nest. That’s been sorted now using the 3D printer I’ll be writing a post about it soon just to make sure I’m happy with the solution.

Also over the past month my car has become a bit of a money pit. I’ve wanted to know how much things actually cost for my car, keep records of work done as well as mileage and fuel usage. However, all the self hosted solutions I could find where far above me needs and some where for actual fleet management.

So I’m starting a new project called odometer. It’s going to start as a simple python cli application as I don’t need much with SQLite as storage, then if I can be bothered or have nothing better to do then a TUI on top, then if I still need something to do then a web app. You can find the project on GitHub obviously.
