Back on the Blog: An Update After a Busy Summer
It’s been a while since my last post, so I wanted to share an update on what’s been happening and where things are heading. The past few months have been busy in ways that didn’t leave much space for writing. Work has been demanding, we had builders on site almost every day for home renovations, and the school summer holidays brought their own full schedule. With weekends spent preparing for the next stage of building work, there wasn’t much time left over for the blog.
Even so, I wasn’t completely away from projects. The one area I managed to keep active was Home Assistant. Small improvements, experiments, and automations became a practical outlet, something I could work on in short bursts while everything else was going on around me. These tweaks kept the house running more smoothly and reminded me that progress doesn’t always have to come in big leaps. I’ll be sharing some of these automations in an upcoming post, in case they’re useful or spark ideas for anyone running a similar setup.
Taking a step back from writing also had its benefits. Pausing created space to think differently: about the direction of ongoing projects, the kinds of experiments worth exploring next, and the best way to share them here. Living through renovations was disruptive, but it also offered perspective. Balancing work, family, and constant change at home left me with plenty of insights I’m keen to develop into future posts.
Looking ahead, my aim is to post more consistently again. I don’t want to set strict promises about frequency, but I do want to keep momentum. Expect updates on existing projects, reflections on what worked and what didn’t, and new experiments as they take shape. Where it makes sense, I’ll also include more detail about the process itself, not just the outcomes. The learning that happens along the way is often the most valuable part, and I want this blog to reflect that.
I’d also like the content here to be useful for a broad range of readers. Some posts will naturally be more technical, especially around Home Assistant configurations, but I’ll balance those with posts that focus on wider lessons about building, experimenting, and problem-solving in everyday contexts.
Thanks for your patience during this pause. It means a lot that people still check in even when new posts haven’t been appearing. I’m glad to be back writing again, and I’m looking forward to sharing the ideas that have been gathering quietly in the background over the past few months.
Thanks for catching up with me in this update. I’m looking forward to sharing more soon.
